“The world needs dreamers and the world needs doers. But above all, the world needs dreamers who do.” - Sarah Ban Breathnach

The time had come for thinking about the possiblity of putting on a 2nd musical in the spring at the Historic Homestake Opera House (HHOH).

"Unbelieveable!"
"Unthinkable!"
"We'll never be able to do a show like that again."
"It was fun - one for the books. But I don't see it happening here."

These types of comments are heard, yes.
But also, they may be conjured up in one's head when one is being doubtful about one's capabilities.
What if some really enthusiastic people got together and did this?
WHY can't they do anything they want to do? What about not hiring a choreographer or a director?
Are there better-suited shows for this community? What would be a good one to start out on their own with?
These were the right questions.
Donna Fjelstad directed "Fiddler On the Roof" in April of 2008, and it was a hit for all involved.
Dave Scherer and Sarah had discussions with Donna and also Dave and Sarah and Karen have also had many talks.
We now have come to the conclusion that we won't know what we can't do unless we try it. TRY IT.

Let's learn and have fun doing, rather than just dreaming.

  1. So many wonderful people turned out to audition for the "Music Man" that an incredible and wonderful problem is at hand. How to make the choices for principle players. Voices, presence, matchups, male, female, ages. Sarah and Dave started discussing possiblities Sunday immediately following auditions and daily since. The field is narrowed down and a list of the principle players for the cast will be available soon. Looking forward to the ensemble meet and greet on Thursday evening.

  2. Yes, some people think that the success of Fiddler was just a fluke, just somrthing that was so great because it had been 25 years since the last great thing happened at the opera house,,, I believe it was only the beginning of so many more great things, not only happening at the opera house, but for our entire community and based on the turnouts for the "Music Man" auditions, hold on to your seats, hold on to your hats, we have only just begun!!!!
